Key Features
- Dual Zone 30-Watt PA Outputs: Two independent 30-watt PA outputs allow you to connect one PA horn forward and one aft, or transmit through both zones simultaneously for maximum coverage. Each output delivers powerful, clear audio for hailing other vessels, communicating with dock personnel, or addressing passengers and crew.
- Four Automatic Foghorn Signals: Compliance-ready with four different foghorn patterns that automatically sound based on your vessel's navigation situation. Select the appropriate signal for power-driven vessels underway, vessels at anchor, vessels aground, or vessels in restricted visibility. Meets COLREGs (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea) requirements.
- Bells, Whistles, Horn, and Siren Functions: Complete suite of audible warning signals including regulation bells and whistles for restricted visibility operations, plus horn and siren options for emergency situations or crew alerts. All signals are easily selectable via push-button controls.
- Hail/Listen-Back Capability: Transmit amplified audio through your PA horn speakers, then instantly switch to listen-back mode to hear responses from other vessels or personnel. This two-way communication capability enhances safety during docking operations, crew overboard situations, and vessel-to-vessel communication.
- Dual Intercom Connections: Connect up to two MLS-300i intercom speaker stations at different locations on your vessel (bridge, engine room, flybridge, etc.). Toggle between IC1 and IC2 for private crew communications without broadcasting over external PA horns. Includes CALL button functionality for instant communication requests.
- Adjustable Backlight Display: Dim the LCD display and button illumination for comfortable night operations without compromising bridge visibility. The adjustable backlight prevents glare while maintaining clear readability of all functions and settings in low-light conditions.
- Noise-Canceling Microphone: Included handheld microphone features noise-canceling technology to ensure clear voice transmission even in noisy engine rooms or rough weather conditions. Coiled cord with standard connector provides flexible mounting options.
- Uniform Design Aesthetic: Modern cosmetic design matches other Standard Horizon marine equipment for a professional, integrated appearance on your vessel's helm or console. Clean black finish with intuitive control layout.
- Flexible Mounting Options: Includes standard bracket mount with hardware and mounting knobs for surface installation. Optional MMB-84 flush mount bracket (sold separately) allows clean, low-profile integration into bulkheads or console panels.
- Robust Marine Construction: Built to withstand harsh marine environments with protective rear terminal design and durable components. Engineered for reliable operation in commercial and recreational marine applications.

Three Operating Modes Explained
Hail/Listen-Back Mode: Send amplified voice communications through your PA horn speakers to hail other vessels, communicate with marina staff, or address crew and passengers. The listen-back function allows you to monitor audio coming back through the PA horn, creating a two-way communication system without requiring the other party to have radio equipment.
Intercom Mode: Establish private point-to-point communication between the loud hailer station and up to two remote intercom speaker locations. Perfect for bridge-to-engine room communication, captain-to-crew coordination, or multi-deck vessel operations. Toggle between IC1 and IC2 connections, and use the CALL button feature on optional MLS-300i speakers to request communication.
Automatic Signaling Mode: Select and automatically transmit the appropriate foghorn, bell, whistle, or warning signal based on your vessel's status and navigation conditions. COLREGs-compliant signals alert nearby vessels to your presence, approximate position, and maneuverability limitations in restricted visibility or other situations requiring sound signals.
Foghorn Signals and Regulatory Compliance
The VLH-3000A provides four distinct foghorn patterns that meet international maritime regulations for sound signals. Power-driven vessels underway use one prolonged blast at intervals of not more than 2 minutes. Vessels at anchor sound rapid bell ringing for 5 seconds at intervals of not more than 1 minute. Vessels aground sound three distinct bell strokes before and after rapid bell ringing. In restricted visibility, vessels use the appropriate signal based on their situation. Having these automated signals ensures compliance and enhances safety without requiring crew to manually activate horns at precise intervals.
Compatibility & Integration
The VLH-3000A integrates seamlessly with Standard Horizon and third-party marine communication equipment. Compatible accessories include MLS-300i intercom speakers with CALL button functionality, MLS-300 and MLS-310 external speakers, 220SW round PA/hailing horns (4.5"), 240SW rectangular PA/hailing horns (5" x 8"), and MMB-84 flush mount bracket. The dual PA output design allows flexible speaker placement—mount horns at the bow and stern for 360-degree coverage, or use both outputs for a single high-power forward speaker configuration.
Installation Options
Standard bracket mounting uses the included hardware for quick installation on any flat surface with access to the rear terminals. The bracket allows angled positioning for optimal viewing and mic access. For a professional, integrated look, the optional MMB-84 flush mount bracket recesses the unit into your console or bulkhead, leaving only the front panel visible. Both mounting methods provide secure installation and protect rear terminal connections from direct water spray.
