The Cambium C000065L007C is the LPU and Grounding Kit for Cambium PTP 650 and PTP 670 point-to-point wireless backhaul links. The kit supplies two lightning protection units (LPUs) and the complete grounding hardware needed to protect one end of a PTP link, including the outdoor radio (ODU) and the indoor LAN it feeds. This part replaces the earlier C000065L007B kit and is a direct, drop-in upgrade.
What's Included
- Two LPUs. One mounts adjacent to the ODU on the rooftop, wall, or tower. The second mounts at the building's cable entry point to protect the indoor LAN.
- ODU to top LPU drop cable with cable glands for a weatherproof seal at the radio enclosure.
- LPU grounding point nuts and washers for both LPUs.
- LPU mounting U-bolts, nuts, and washers for pole or wall mounting.
- ODU to top LPU ground cable with bolts and washers at the ODU grounding point.
- ODU to grounding system ground cable connecting the ODU directly to the site ground.
- Bottom LPU to grounding system ground cable tying the building-entry LPU to the same ground reference.
Key Features
- Two-stage lightning protection. Surge energy induced in the outdoor cable run is shunted to ground at both the radio end and the building entry point, rather than relying on a single protection stage.
- Gigabit PoE pass-through. Rated for 1000 Mbps with 56V DC Power over Ethernet, matching PTP 650 and PTP 670 radio power requirements without a separate data path.
- IP66/IP67 outdoor rated enclosures. Both LPUs are sealed for direct outdoor and tower-top exposure.
- High surge rating. 172A at 10/1000us line-to-ground, and 230A at 5/320us per EN61000-4-5, giving the link protection against typical induced lightning surge events.
- Flexible mounting. Pole mount for 1-3 inch (25-75 mm) diameter poles, or wall mount using the included U-bolts and hardware.
- Wide operating range. Rated -40C to +60C for deployment in extreme outdoor environments.
- Complete grounding accessories included. No separate ground cable or hardware purchase needed to complete a code-compliant grounding path.

How Many Kits Do You Need
A complete PTP 650 or PTP 670 link has two ends, and Cambium specifies one LPU Kit per end. That means a full point-to-point link requires two C000065L007C kits total, one for each radio site. Each kit on its own protects a single ODU and the LAN behind it; it does not cover the far end of the link.
Why Lightning Protection Matters on PTP Links
PTP 650 and PTP 670 radios are typically mounted on rooftops, towers, or masts where the outdoor cable run is directly exposed to induced surge energy from nearby lightning strikes. An LPU does not stop a direct strike, but it gives the surge energy a low-impedance path to ground before it reaches the radio or the indoor network equipment. Cambium's documented best practice is two LPUs per radio: one at the ODU and one at the building's cable entry point, which is exactly what this kit provides for one end of the link.
Applications
- New PTP 650 or PTP 670 link installations requiring full lightning and surge protection at both ends
- Retrofitting existing PTP links that were installed without LPU protection
- Replacement of legacy C000065L007B kits with the current C000065L007C part
- Tower, rooftop, and mast-mounted fixed wireless backhaul deployments in lightning-prone regions
